Hello interweb, Nate here! So here’s another top 10 list! This time: superhero teams! If you’re familiar with my blog, number #1 shouldn’t surprise you; but how about the rest? Let’s just jump into it and find out!
Hello interweb, Nate here! So I just got done watching Teen Titans: The Judas Contract and never have I actually wanted to review a movie as much as this one as soon as it was over. Now the last DC animated movie was Justice League Dark and I had a review written up for that movie but once the review was done I read through it and realized that I really had nothing to say about it. I enjoyed the movie, but that was it I just enjoyed the movie. There was nothing amazing about the movie that stood out to me nor was there anything terrible. Because of this, I decided not to post that review because it just was a really boring review. This, however, is a movie that I loved so much by the time it was over that the first thought that came to mind was that I needed to review this film. This is a spoiler review so SPOILER WARNING but if you really want to know if you should spend your time watching this or not let me just say that this may be the best DC animated movie – no – best DC movie released recently. The DCEU has been struggling and the animated movies have been ranging from sucking to just decent. But I’d say that this is probably the best DC movie in recent years. So no more beating around the bush, let’s get this review started! (more…)
Hello interweb, Nate here! So, the DCEU has been kinda sucking hasn’t it? I mean, Man of Steel sucked, Batman V Superman – while I like it as a guilty pleasure – is plagued with sloppy writing, and Suicide Squad most see as the worst of the DCEU movies. So this year Justice League and Wonder Woman is coming out. Justice League will probably suck, and I’m really hoping Wonder Woman is at least a good movie if not a great one. But one criticism the franchise has been facing over and over again is that they’re rushing the movies out too quickly to catch up to Marvel. Hell, they’ve announced a Nightwing movie when The Batman is still having development issues at the moment! So I was wondering if I was in charge of this whole project, how would I run it? So here’s my idea! When reading this, keep in mind that I’m starting from a clean slate. Meaning I’m pretending Man of Steel, Batman V Superman, and Suicide Squad never happened!
Also keep in mind I’m just focusing on the story aspect at the moment. Not thinking about cast, directors, writers, etc.
Hello intwerweb, Nate here! So Ben Affleck recently leaked a teaser revealing Deathstroke’s costume for the upcoming Batman movie and the entire internet lost it. Now yes it is official that Deathstroke the Terminator is going to be the villain of the the Ben Affleck directed Batman movie. So what are my thoughts on the situation? Well it’s pretty simple: since when was Deathstroke a Batman villain? He’s the Teen Titan’s archenemy! (more…)
Hello interweb, Nate here. So I haven’t used this Comixplanations segment as much as I originally planned. Ah well. So anyhoo, we have heard from Warner Bros that Ben Affleck is not only playing Batman in the DCEU Batman movies but will also be directing it. Of course you can’t do an MCU-styled DC movie universe without making at least one Batman solo film. We know that Wonder Woman’s movie is in the works (I reviewed the first trailer) and Man of Steel 2 is currently in development (PLEASE make it better than the first movie) and on top of that Aquaman, Flash, Cyborg, and Green Lantern are all getting their solo movies. So with that there’s quite a bit of questions and speculations that we can make while waiting. However while a few of those characters I know very little about (like Aquaman), I do know most of the characters in the Justice League as well as their history and characters. And while any one of them can make a really good movie series given the right creative teams (barring Cyborg really since he honestly needs the Teen Titans to be the least bit interesting), Batman in particular has the potential for a greater movie series than even the beloved Dark Knight trilogy with so many villains and allies that have yet to be used fully in a previous Batman movie. But there’s one ally that I’m really curious on how they’re gonna go about with: Robin!
Hello interweb, Nate here. So Convergence lasted a while, didn’t it? Well at least Convergence‘s failure woke DC up because this maybe the best decision they’ve made in a while. DC Rebirth, for those of you who don’t know, is the rebirth of pre-New 52 DC and combining it with the good parts of the New 52. So yes we’re getting our DC back! Most long term DC fans hated the changes within the New 52, I included, so the fact that DC is bringing in the old continuity is amazing! So just like what I did with All-New, All-Different Marvel (I’ll be reviewing some of the comics in All-New, All-Different Marvel when the trades hit shelves), I’ll be going over the on-going titles listed on the DC Rebirth’s Wikipedia page and giving my opinion on each of them. Now unlike my All-New, All-Different Marvel post, DC Rebirth isn’t alphabetical but is organized by different sections: “Batman” (including Batman, Action Comics, Nightwing, Batgirl, etc.), “Superman/Wonder Woman”, “Justice League”, and “other”. There’s also “One-Shots” which includes titles that have “rebirth” in the name (I’m guessing they’re just short miniseries for each character) but I’m not going to go over those. The list is found on the earlier link so check it out if you want. With that said, let’s get started! (more…)
Hello interweb, Nate here. So my 5o Facts About Superman seems like a pretty popular post and, judging by the poll I made, you guys all wanted me to explore my “50 Facts” series a bit more. Now I originally was going to go with Spider-man as my next character but because the Deadpool movie is right around the corner I thought I’d try it out with the Merc with the Mouth! So let’s jump right into this! (more…)
Happy Halloween interweb, Nate here. So during my review of Fant4stic I had a poll up for my Halloween Special and between the Top 10 Gothic Superhero Costumes or a Comixplanation on Death in Comics and I think it’s pretty obvious on which one won. This list is pretty simply: it’s my personal favorite Gothic superhero costumes. So basically if it’s mostly black with maybe some white, purple, or blue, than it qualifies. Let’s get the the list!
Hello interweb, Nate here. So we’ve all had that feeling when our favorite cartoon was cancelled for stupid reasons. Some cartoons are understandable, other cartoons were just so good that it blows my mind why it got such a short run (Invader Zim anyone?). Now this isn’t a list of cartoons that got a good run that I just would’ve liked to continue (like Teen Titans), this is a list of really good cartoons that only got 1 or 2 seasons and possibly ended on a cliffhanger (which is the worst!).
Hello interweb, Nate here. So while I’m revisiting episodes of Justice League to get ready for Friday’s list, I thought I would take today to review a title that I’ve been wanting to read and review for a while: Blue Beetle Volume 8. I’ve already reviewed the first 3 issues of the New 52 Blue Beetle (reviews of issues 1, 2, and 3) so I decided to check out Jaime Reyes’s first comic book run. The only problem is I got the entire run from my library as trades (the list of trades for this run is below) and I actually couldn’t get my hands on the one called Blue Beetle: Black and Blue. Usually I would be find with this, but since I’m reviewing the series I kinda feels like this would make the review incomplete. So just keep that in mind. Also since I’m reviewing the entire run I’m not going to do my usual format and instead I’ll just talk about the book similarly to how I did my FCBD reviews. (more…)
