Hello interweb, Nate here! So, the DCEU has been kinda sucking hasn’t it? I mean, Man of Steel sucked, Batman V Superman – while I like it as a guilty pleasure – is plagued with sloppy writing, and Suicide Squad most see as the worst of the DCEU movies. So this year Justice League and Wonder Woman is coming out. Justice League will probably suck, and I’m really hoping Wonder Woman is at least a good movie if not a great one. But one criticism the franchise has been facing over and over again is that they’re rushing the movies out too quickly to catch up to Marvel. Hell, they’ve announced a Nightwing movie when The Batman is still having development issues at the moment! So I was wondering if I was in charge of this whole project, how would I run it? So here’s my idea! When reading this, keep in mind that I’m starting from a clean slate. Meaning I’m pretending Man of Steel, Batman V Superman, and Suicide Squad never happened!
Also keep in mind I’m just focusing on the story aspect at the moment. Not thinking about cast, directors, writers, etc. (more…)
Hello interweb, Nate here! So recent news broke out where Greg Rucka, the writer of the current Wonder Woman comics, has confirmed in an interview that Wonder Woman was…interested and had romantic relationships with women! Yeah, he really didn’t place an official label on her as being “gay” or “bisexual” but he pretty much confirmed that Wonder Woman is at least queer. So is this a win for LGBT peoples everywhere or another attempt at forced diversity? (more…)
Hello interweb, Nate here. So during Comic-Con, DC released trailers for both Wonder Woman and Justice League and in my last post I mentioned how I adored the Wonder Woman trailer but the Justice League trailer did leave me with a few minor complaints. Overall because I feel like I have more interesting things to say about the Justice League trailer I thought I would kick off my reviewing that trailer first and Wonder Woman second. Now I do want to make it clear that I haven’t seen Batman V Superman yet but by now I have been spoiled so I know quite a few details about the movie. With that said, let’s begin! (more…)
Hello interweb, Nate here. So Convergence lasted a while, didn’t it? Well at least Convergence‘s failure woke DC up because this maybe the best decision they’ve made in a while. DC Rebirth, for those of you who don’t know, is the rebirth of pre-New 52 DC and combining it with the good parts of the New 52. So yes we’re getting our DC back! Most long term DC fans hated the changes within the New 52, I included, so the fact that DC is bringing in the old continuity is amazing! So just like what I did with All-New, All-Different Marvel (I’ll be reviewing some of the comics in All-New, All-Different Marvel when the trades hit shelves), I’ll be going over the on-going titles listed on the DC Rebirth’s Wikipedia page and giving my opinion on each of them. Now unlike my All-New, All-Different Marvel post, DC Rebirth isn’t alphabetical but is organized by different sections: “Batman” (including Batman, Action Comics, Nightwing, Batgirl, etc.), “Superman/Wonder Woman”, “Justice League”, and “other”. There’s also “One-Shots” which includes titles that have “rebirth” in the name (I’m guessing they’re just short miniseries for each character) but I’m not going to go over those. The list is found on the earlier link so check it out if you want. With that said, let’s get started! (more…)
Hello interweb, Nate here. Welcome to 90’cember, where I go over the over-the-top craziness that is 90’s comics throughout the month of December to celebrate the over-the-top craziness that is Christmas. Today we’re going over the DC Vs Marvel comic book line and exploring the crossovers that occurred during the events.
Side note: As most of you know, the second official Batman V Superman trailer recently been released. So despite the fact that we’re in the middle of 90’cember, I thought I’d post a trailer review of it tomorrow. You guys seem to enjoy those types of posts so what the heck!
Happy Halloween interweb, Nate here. So during my review of Fant4stic I had a poll up for my Halloween Special and between the Top 10 Gothic Superhero Costumes or a Comixplanation on Death in Comics and I think it’s pretty obvious on which one won. This list is pretty simply: it’s my personal favorite Gothic superhero costumes. So basically if it’s mostly black with maybe some white, purple, or blue, than it qualifies. Let’s get the the list!
Hello interweb, Nate here. So we’ve all had that feeling when our favorite cartoon was cancelled for stupid reasons. Some cartoons are understandable, other cartoons were just so good that it blows my mind why it got such a short run (Invader Zim anyone?). Now this isn’t a list of cartoons that got a good run that I just would’ve liked to continue (like Teen Titans), this is a list of really good cartoons that only got 1 or 2 seasons and possibly ended on a cliffhanger (which is the worst!).
Hello interweb, Nate here. So this question has been bugging me for quite some time now: what is an antihero? Now based upon my understanding of the term, an antihero is a character who does villainous things for good intentions. The best example is the Punisher who’s main shtick is to go around and kill bad guys. Killing is obviously a villainous trait and most heroes (such as Spider-man, Batman, and Superman [well, when he’s not being directed by Zack Snyder]) refuse to do it, but since he’s doing it to protect the innocent from murderers and thieves he’s not considered a villain; thus he’s an antihero. Many character easily fit this description such as Deadpool, Deathstroke (yes he’s usually shown as a villain but because he’s a mercenary he’s willing to help the good guys if they pay him enough. Which is rare but it has happened before.), Spawn, Catwoman, etc. but there are a few characters that people have described as an antihero that has confused me in the past and that’s what I’m mostly curious about here. Hello interweb, Nate here. So I’ve fallen behind on my posts and this is mostly due to being busy, uninspired, and waiting for the third volume of Superior Spider-man to arrive at my library so I can read and review the series based off of a reader’s request. So with little to really talk about currently, I decided I wanted to stray away from the actual comics to talk about a game that I’ve recently been diving head-first into that features Marvel and DC characters: HeroClix. Hello interweb, Nate here. So while I’m revisiting episodes of Justice League to get ready for Friday’s list, I thought I would take today to review a title that I’ve been wanting to read and review for a while: Blue Beetle Volume 8. I’ve already reviewed the first 3 issues of the New 52 Blue Beetle (reviews of issues 1, 2, and 3) so I decided to check out Jaime Reyes’s first comic book run. The only problem is I got the entire run from my library as trades (the list of trades for this run is below) and I actually couldn’t get my hands on the one called Blue Beetle: Black and Blue. Usually I would be find with this, but since I’m reviewing the series I kinda feels like this would make the review incomplete. So just keep that in mind. Also since I’m reviewing the entire run I’m not going to do my usual format and instead I’ll just talk about the book similarly to how I did my FCBD reviews. (more…)
