Top 10 Favorite LGBT Characters – Pride Month Special

Hello interweb, Nate here!  My first Pride Month special!  I’ve always meant to do one of these but every time I found the time to do one Pride Month was over and I didn’t really want to do a Pride Month special if it wasn’t during Pride.  I also wanted to get this out on the 26th since that marked the second anniversary of gay marriage being legalized in all 50 states in America, but I got busy on a Youth retreat and thus didn’t have the time to complete this.  Maybe in future years I’ll be able to create a tradition of releasing a Pride special every year on June 26th but don’t get your hopes up.  Enough beating around the bush, this list consists of my Top 10 Favorite characters in comics or comic book adaptations that identify as LGBT.  Leggo!

Do we Want More R-Rated Superhero Movies? – Discussion

Hello interweb, Nate here!  So I recently decided to clean up my blog a little.  The categories that I put all my posts in where kinda everywhere and I had a lot of random old junk posts that weren’t doing anything but making this place cluttery.  So I deleted a lot of old posts that nobody was reading (mostly because they where old and dumb) and reorganized the categories a bit.  This has little to do with this actual post but I did want to introduce a semi-new category: discussions!  These posts are meant to do exactly what it says.  I bring up a topic, briefly (or as briefly as possible) give my current opinions on the topic, and let you guys comment below with your thoughts and maybe we can have a little dialogue over it.  It doesn’t necessarily have to be a long drawn-out conversation either.  I respond to all comments I get on this blog so if you decide to leave a comment below and I respond you can decide for yourself whether to continue the conversation or not!  With all that said and done, let’s get this idea off the ground! Everything Wrong With: “The Dark Knight Returns” Pt. 1

Hello interweb, Nate here!  First of all, yeesh I forgot how big this book was.  Four chapters does not equal four of your average comic books.  Most comics only contain roughly 20 pages and usually takes about 10 minutes to read (although that can change depending on how fast of a reader you are and how much text the writer decides to shove into the actual book).  So this SuperheroSins took a lot longer to make then I initially expected and it took my several days to actually complete it.  However, because it’s so long I decided to split this into several parts with each chapter getting it’s own SuperheroSins episode.

Also I do want to add something, just because I do a SuperheroSins on a specific comic does not necessarily mean I think the comic is bad.  But every comic out there can be critiqued and nitpicked if you try hard enough (side note: I find it funny that my auto correct accepted “nitpicked” as a word).  With all that said, let’s begin!

Disclaimer: I do not claim to own Batman or this comic.  Batman is owned by DC comics, this comic is written and drawn by Frank Miller. (more…)

Teen Titans: The Judas Contract – Review

Hello interweb, Nate here!  So I just got done watching Teen Titans: The Judas Contract and never have I actually wanted to review a movie as much as this one as soon as it was over.  Now the last DC animated movie was Justice League Dark and I had a review written up for that movie but once the review was done I read through it and realized that I really had nothing to say about it.  I enjoyed the movie, but that was it I just enjoyed the movie.  There was nothing amazing about the movie that stood out to me nor was there anything terrible.  Because of this, I decided not to post that review because it just was a really boring review.  This, however, is a movie that I loved so much by the time it was over that the first thought that came to mind was that I needed to review this film.  This is a spoiler review so SPOILER WARNING but if you really want to know if you should spend your time watching this or not let me just say that this may be the best DC animated movie – no – best DC movie released recently.  The DCEU has been struggling and the animated movies have been ranging from sucking to just decent.  But I’d say that this is probably the best DC movie in recent years.  So no more beating around the bush, let’s get this review started! How I would make the DCEU

Hello interweb, Nate here!  So, the DCEU has been kinda sucking hasn’t it?  I mean, Man of Steel sucked, Batman V Superman – while I like it as a guilty pleasure – is plagued with sloppy writing, and Suicide Squad most see as the worst of the DCEU movies.  So this year Justice League and Wonder Woman is coming out.  Justice League will probably suck, and I’m really hoping Wonder Woman is at least a good movie if not a great one.  But one criticism the franchise has been facing over and over again is that they’re rushing the movies out too quickly to catch up to Marvel.  Hell, they’ve announced a Nightwing movie when The Batman is still having development issues at the moment!  So I was wondering if  was in charge of this whole project, how would I run it?  So here’s my idea! When reading this, keep in mind that I’m starting from a clean slate.  Meaning I’m pretending Man of Steel, Batman V Superman, and Suicide Squad never happened!

Also keep in mind I’m just focusing on the story aspect at the moment.  Not thinking about cast, directors, writers, etc.

Re: The Hawkeye Initiative

Hello interweb, Nate here!  So a while ago, a Tumblr page called The Hawkeye Initiative was started in wich people attempt to show how ridiculously women are drawn in comic books.  Now if you ever read comic books, you’d know that this isn’t a gendered problem; and in my opinion, it isn’t a problem at all.  Now sometimes these drawings do point out a genuinely ridiculous piece of art, but a lot of these it’s a very simple formula: take a reasonable drawing of a woman, draw Hawkeye in the exact same pose with the exact same body type and exact same clothes, and give him a kissy face.  That should make it obvious why this initiative doesn’t work but I’ll show you some of the art from the site specifically.  Now there are  53 pages worth of content on this site so obviously, I’m not going over every image.  That plus sometimes an image of a girl with a thong is turned into Hawkeye with a thong and his testicles are hanging out of the sides and I’m sure most of my viewers don’t want to see that (and if you do then the link is above so just check it out for yourself).  I’m just going over ten that stands out to me the most and discussing my opinions on that example.  Hopefully, by the time you’re done reading this, you should be able to assess my opinions on most of the images there even if you disagree.  So with that, let’s start!

Disclaimer: All art is owned by the respective comic book companies and all “fan” art is owned by the creators of The Hawkeye Initiative.  I am not in any way, shape, or form responsible for the creation of these images.  I am only responsible for the critiques I give to these images.

My opinion on Pansexual Deadpool in Deadpool 2 and Young Justice possible LGBT characters

screenshot-2017-01-07-18-19-33Hello interweb, Nate here!  Yeesh, first my last post and now this.  This blog is getting too gay!  All jokes aside, quite recently Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds suggested that he would be hopeful for Deadpool to get a boyfriend in the sequel Deadpool 2 since Wade is canonically considered “pansexual” in the comics and I wanted to talk about this when it was first announced but it was such a minor piece of news that I didn’t really bother covering it.  However, a few hours ago Greg Weisman, co-creator of Young Justice, recently stated that there are LGBT characters in Young Justice and it’s possible they may come out in season 3.  So with two announcements of possibly more LGBT characters in comic book cartoons and movies, I figured I could share my 2 cents on this and maybe next time I can cover something a little less gay lol.

Side note: I’d really appreciate it if you guys would check out the last post I did do since it actually didn’t get as many views as I was hoping for and I really like the project that I’m working on. (more…)
