Hello interweb, Nate here. So I haven’t used this Comixplanations segment as much as I originally planned. Ah well. So anyhoo, we have heard from Warner Bros that Ben Affleck is not only playing Batman in the DCEU Batman movies but will also be directing it. Of course you can’t do an MCU-styled DC movie universe without making at least one Batman solo film. We know that Wonder Woman’s movie is in the works (I reviewed the first trailer) and Man of Steel 2 is currently in development (PLEASE make it better than the first movie) and on top of that Aquaman, Flash, Cyborg, and Green Lantern are all getting their solo movies. So with that there’s quite a bit of questions and speculations that we can make while waiting. However while a few of those characters I know very little about (like Aquaman), I do know most of the characters in the Justice League as well as their history and characters. And while any one of them can make a really good movie series given the right creative teams (barring Cyborg really since he honestly needs the Teen Titans to be the least bit interesting), Batman in particular has the potential for a greater movie series than even the beloved Dark Knight trilogy with so many villains and allies that have yet to be used fully in a previous Batman movie. But there’s one ally that I’m really curious on how they’re gonna go about with: Robin! (more…)
Hello interweb, Nate here! So this is a post that I decided I want to take a crack at because I really haven’t done any type of reading recommendations type post and I’ve been reading quite a lot of Deadpool comics since his movie was announced a few years ago. So because I’ve read so many Deadpool comics and he has quickly became one of my absolute favorite characters. Since I’ve read so much of his comics and he’s quickly becoming one of Marvel’s most popular characters, I thought maybe I could help you guys find fun Deadpool stories if you guys were at all interesting. So with that said, let’s begin! (more…)
Hello interweb, Nate here. Welcome to 90’cember, where I go over the over-the-top craziness that is 90’s comics throughout the month of December to celebrate the over-the-top craziness that is Christmas. Today we’re going over the DC Vs Marvel comic book line and exploring the crossovers that occurred during the events.
Side note: As most of you know, the second official Batman V Superman trailer recently been released. So despite the fact that we’re in the middle of 90’cember, I thought I’d post a trailer review of it tomorrow. You guys seem to enjoy those types of posts so what the heck!
Hello interweb, Nate here. So I actually forgot all about Veterans Day until now so I thought I’d do something special for today. While a superhero blog talking about U.S. soldiers may make most people think about Captain America, I decided I wanted to go with a character who I’ve loved recently who has became an American hero in the Marvel universe. That hero is Flash Thomson, aka Agent Venom. Now this story is actually based on a real world event where a U.S. soldier amputated their legs during war so I figured this would be appropriate for this day. (more…)
Hello interweb, Nate here. So I’ve fallen behind on my posts and this is mostly due to being busy, uninspired, and waiting for the third volume of Superior Spider-man to arrive at my library so I can read and review the series based off of a reader’s request. So with little to really talk about currently, I decided I wanted to stray away from the actual comics to talk about a game that I’ve recently been diving head-first into that features Marvel and DC characters: HeroClix. (more…)
Hello interweb, Nate here. So recently Marvel has been attempting – and for the most part succeeding – to make the Inhumans more important within the Marvel universe and they are even getting their own film in 2019. So who exactly are the Inhumans? (more…)
Hello in interweb, Nate here. So as most of you, DC has rebooted their comics again with an 9-issue miniseries called Convergence. While I have not read any of the Convergence comics from the miniseries (I’m just going to wait until it’s collected into a trade), I have read a few of the titles that came out during this event. The comics I bought was: Convergence: Superman #1, Convergence: Batgirl #1, and Convergence: Harley Quinn #1. I also wanted to buy Convergence: Speed Force #1 but unfortunately my local comic shop ran out of that specific title. So I decided that I would review the three convergence title throughout this week but today I’ll explain what exactly is going on with convergence so it’s easier for you guys to follow along. (more…)
Hello interweb, Nate here. Okay, let’s get a few things out of the way: yes I’m still going to finish NonComic Month, yes this post is technically breaking the whole “no comics allowed” rule for this month, and yes this is the new series (that you guys probably forgot that it was even mentioned by now) that I mentioned in my New Years Special. This new series I call Comixplanation as I give xplanations on things in relation to comix (see what I did there?). Now one thing is after DC announced their Convergence event (yet another DC event made to reboot their universe) I bet you guys kinda thought I would talk about it as I seemed pretty excited when I talked about Marvel’s Secret Wars event. The only difference is this is Marvel’s first multiverse-wide reboot while DC is rebooting their universe after they just rebooted it with Flashpoint and the New 52 5 years ago and honestly I never did care for the New 52. So while I’m excited about Secret Wars I’m really ticked about Convergence (where do I get in line?) and really don’t want to talk about it right now.
So anyways, one thing that I’m kinda excited and kinda nervous about at the same time is the upcoming DCCU (DC Cinematic Universe). Now I have to admit, I never really wanted to pick sides in the whole “Marvel Vs DC” debate (even making a whole post about it) but that was mostly because I was always worried that if I publicly stated that I like X better than Y than you guys would start thinking that I disliked or even hated Y even though I love Y, I just like X a little more. Now that I see how stupid that is I’m just going to come out and say it: I like DC a little more than I like Marvel. I won’t go into the details here (that probably deserves a whole post all to itself) but it does go to show that I really want the DCCU to succeed even though the movie Man of Steel kinda makes me nervous about the whole ordeal. So here are some ways that the DCCU could be better than the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and whether this is just me giving myself false hope or these facts will contribute in one way/shape/form will be seen in the future. Also, it should be noted that “could”=/=”will”, these are all theoretical and may not actually work out. (more…)
