Hello interweb, Nate here! Oh, I said in the last post that I’ll do the SuperheroSins episode to DKR Pt 2? I lied! Now I’m a fan of Pokemon, Marvel, DC, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, etc. But I’m also kind of a science nerd. Because of this, sometimes I like to try and use real world science to explain things in fiction. Granted, most things in fiction usually ignores science because if superheroes were restricted to real world science then they wouldn’t be nearly as fun. However, it’s fun for me at least to try and explain fiction using real world science or at least compare them. I really don’t know why this is but I can’t be alone considering that YouTube channels like Game Theory exist as well as books like James Kakalios’s book The Physics of Superheroes is an actual published book at any library or book store. One of my favorite subjects in science is evolution and it’s a topic that I really wish I knew more about then I do currently. In addition to my fascination with evolution, I’m a huge fan of the popular video game/anime/trading card game/manga Pokemon! So I decided to write this essay in order to compare Pokemon evolution to Darwinian evolution and look at the evidence give to use from the various Pokemon medium to ask the question of if Darwinian evolution occurs in the Pokemon universe.
Disclaimer: While I am fascinated by the subject, I am no expert in evolution. In addition, while I am a huge fan of the franchise, I do not know everything about Pokemon. Therefore, I very well may make various mistakes in this article and I encourage others to correct me whenever possible. Also, I was quite proud of this so I decided to turn this into a semi-formal essay. So I hope you enjoy!
Hello interweb, Nate here! A while ago I mentioned in a post that I was getting a little burnt out on only talking about superheroes and wanted to expand this blog a little. I have decided, after much consideration, to expand this blog to an overall “geek” blog that will open the doors to more discussion over more topics without completely abandoning superheroes and comics as a whole. The biggest problem I’m really having is how to reorganize this site to accommodate this change. I’m trying to think of a new name for this blog as well as a new banner (or maybe change the style of this site to exclude the banner all together?). But for now, this is a post I’ve actually been wanting to do for years but just haven’t really been able to do it. So today, here’s my Top 10 Favorite Pokemon!
Now, this list was actually really painful for me to make as I could only pick 10 out of 800+ Pokemon that exist as of Gen VII. Granted, these are my favorites so I only had to deal with the ones I really like rather than mediocre ones like Pidgey or Rattata. However this list didn’t take too long to make as I actually looked up a website that helps with creating your top 10 list accurately and quickly that I’d actually recommend trying out as it was quite fun (Pro tip: try picking ONLY one pokemon every time and avoid clicking “pass” button).
Hello interweb, Nate here! First of all, yeesh I forgot how big this book was. Four chapters does not equal four of your average comic books. Most comics only contain roughly 20 pages and usually takes about 10 minutes to read (although that can change depending on how fast of a reader you are and how much text the writer decides to shove into the actual book). So this SuperheroSins took a lot longer to make then I initially expected and it took my several days to actually complete it. However, because it’s so long I decided to split this into several parts with each chapter getting it’s own SuperheroSins episode.
Also I do want to add something, just because I do a SuperheroSins on a specific comic does not necessarily mean I think the comic is bad. But every comic out there can be critiqued and nitpicked if you try hard enough (side note: I find it funny that my auto correct accepted “nitpicked” as a word). With all that said, let’s begin!
Disclaimer: I do not claim to own Batman or this comic. Batman is owned by DC comics, this comic is written and drawn by Frank Miller. (more…)
